High finish

In 2001 there is a large group of top players who have made the switch from the BDO to the PDC. Names including Steve Beaton, Ronnie Baxter, Andy Jenkins, Chris Mason and Kevin Painter try their luck with the professionals. Earlier, former world champions John Part and Richie Burnett had also switched and the playing field is becoming ever stronger. This means more surprise results, especially in the first round.

A year after his debut Roland Scholten succeeds to survive the first cut, he beats the American Steve Brown, but in round two Steve Beaton is too strong. Beaton took out the tournaments topseed in the first round. Peter Manley lost 8-10 The Adonis. The story of 2001 is perhaps the story of Martin Adams. He participates for the second consecutive year and it would be his last time in Blackpool. Adams beats en route to the semi-finals the number two seed Alan Warriner in a thrilling match 13-11. In the semi-finals, he encounters an unleashed Phil Taylor. For the second year in a row Taylor wins the title unthreatened, this time in the final against Richie Burnett. For the second year in a row, there is no one who even comes close to The Power.
