A year after his lost final, James Wade is more experienced and he is on some lists as an outsider for the title. However, the tournament appears to be an easy prey again for Taylor or can the brand new World Champion Raymond van Barneveld stop him? That will not happen as Barney loses in the quarterfinals to an inspired Adrian Lewis.

Taylor has lost only eight legs on his way to the semi-finals and seems to be cruising when he has to compete with the ever-tough opponent, Terry Jenkins. “The Bull”, Terry Jenkins plays one of his best games ever and defeats The Power. In the other semi-final, the favourite also goes down. Adrian Lewis is the favourite, after his strong quarterfinal, against James Wade, but loses big 17-7. Both finalists have never won a major, so there will be a new name on the trophy. It is the name of James Wade; he wins easily against Terry Jenkins who didn’t take his best game to the stage in the final, 18-7.

Remarkably in 2007 only two of the sixteen seeded players do not survive the first round. Even more remarkable is that it is two of the highest ranked players that go out. The fourth seed Peter Manley loses to the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen, who makes his debut on stage in Blackpool. Another debutant; Mervyn King defeats the number three in the world ranking list, the 2005 champion Colin Lloyd.
