In 2004, the eleventh edition of the World Matchplay is held from 25 to 31 July.  Traditionally, the Winter Gardens are the venue. Taylor wins the World Matchplay for the fifth consecutive year and he does so by force majeure. Actually, he is never in trouble. He beats Mark Dudbridge in the final with 18-8.

Yet there are wonderful games played on stage in Blackpool. Especially in the second round there is a lot of excitement. Five of the eight games need extra legs to designate a winner. Roland Scholten is one of the victims of the second round. The man from The Hague is the second seed in this year’s World Matchplay, but gets knocked out in the second round by Jamie Harvey. He loses 16-18.
