After the big successes of Raymond van Barneveld including winning multiple BDO World Championships, the Netherlands organises its own World Championship equivalent in 2002, the World Darts Trophy. In the slipstream of the men the women also get their own tournament. The tournament would eventually get four editions, all held in the ice rink Vechtsebanen Utrecht in September.

It is striking that the prize money of this tournament in the women is considerably higher than the prize money in the World Championship, even more than 15 years later.

The tournament gets a Dutch winner three times, Karin Krappen, Francis Hoenselaar and Mieke de Boer. The latter gets nationwide popularity with the victory and even appears as a poster girl in Playboy magazine.

Russian youngster Anastasia Dobromyslova makes her TV debut in 2004 at this tournament. She does very well as she immediately reaches the final and impresses all week.
