The new World Darts Federation president, Australian Peter McMenamin, hosted top darts players from 17 countries in his country from October 17 to 19, 1985. The Crest Hotel in Brisbane, Queensland is the venue.

Malaysia is the only country that has not previously competed in a WDF World Cup. They only come with their men's team, Norway on the other hand only bring their ladies to Australia.

In the pairs event, the English duo John Lowe & Eric Bristow were in the semi-finals against the American pair Rick Ney & Dan Valletto. With a 3-2 score in favour of the English, Dan Valletto had the opportunity to tie, but missed on double 16 to give the English a place in the final.

In the other semi-finals, it was an Oceanic tussle between Australia with Russell Stewart & Frank Palko and Brent Bartholomew & Alfred Moses on behalf of New Zealand. The game was easily won by the Aussies 4-0.

In the final, John Lowe & Eric Bristow secured their fourth WDF World Cup title in the pairs by beating their Australian opponents 4-0. Never has a country other than England won this title.
