WDF World Cup Ladies Singles 1983

The British dominated the World Cup IV, which was held in Edinburgh, Scotland from October 21 to 22. At the general meeting of the WDF Peter McMenamin from Australia was elected as the new president. He replaced Bill Turner from New Zealand. For the first time there was also a World Cup for women in 1983.

In the women's event 19 countries were present. Two ladies who played in a singles and pairs event, where points were awarded to each event, represented each country.

Sandy Reitan of America beat one of the pre-tournament favourites Maureen Flowers 4-2 in the first round. Sandy pushed on to the semi-finals where she knocked out the 1982 World Master Ann-Marie Davies from Wales 4-0.

In a thrilling final, she also defeated Sandra Lee, winner of the European Cup in 1982, from Wales 4-3. Sandra Lee had defeated Dutch lady Johanna Schipper in the semi-finals 4-3.
