The sixth edition of the World Cup of Darts was played from 2-5 June 2016 in Frankfurt. Two players from 32 countries played as a team for this title. Defending champions England with Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis won the tournament for the fourth time and for the second time in a row.

They defeated the Dutch duo Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld in a thrilling final. England took a 1-0 lead when Phil Taylor won his match against Michael van Gerwen. Netherlands bounced back strong. Raymond van Barneveld defeated Adrian Lewis and the English duo was also defeated in the pairs match. With this win the Orange team was leading 2-1. Nevertheless, the victory would go to England because Taylor and Lewis both won their last singles match.

In the first round England survived a scare. Aa ninth and decisive leg was needed to put aside the Spanish duo Cristo Reyes and Antonio Alcinas, but in the remainder of the tournament the England duo never got into trouble against China, Austria and Northern Ireland.

The Netherlands in turn also had a difficult time in the first round against Russia and in the quarterfinals against the Australians, but still managed to reach the final. Belgium lived up to it’s reputation in this tournament by turning over the strong Scottish team in the quarterfinals, the Netherlands however proved too strong in the semi-finals.
