At the start of the 2005 WC, Taylor is at his best, he is determined to defend the title he so painfully earned a year before. It costs him a lot less effort to take home this years trophy. None of the other players even come close to touching the man, not even Mark Dudbridge who is his opponent in the finale. The Dutchmen competing in the WC this year are Roland Scholten and Josephus Schenk. Schenk surprises friend and foe by winning the 3rd round by beating the number 3 of the world, Peter Manley. A round later Schenk loses to Andy Hamilton. Hamilton came into the tournament as a qualifier, but makes a big impression by making the quarter finales.

Colin Lloyd is the world’s number 1 of that year, and reaches the quarter finale where he needs to make way for Wayne Mardle. He, in his turn, loses to Mark Dudbridge, who is in the prime of his game. But not even he can stand up against Taylor in the finale, but a reward for Dudbridge is that he’s certain of a place in the 1st ever Premier League, that would start in the same year.
