For the first time in his career, Raymond van Barneveld won the Masters in 2001. In the final he was far too strong for Andy Fordham: 5-1. Fordham defeated Co Stompé in the semi-final; Van Barneveld overcame Ronnie Baxter 3-1.

Next to Van Barneveld and Stompé, six English players were in the last eight. Barney sent Martin Adams, the number one seed home and Co Stompé ended the hopes of second seed Mervyn King. Finalist Fordham defeated Kevin Painter in the quarterfinals and the last quarterfinal match was between Baxter and Ted Hankey, being won by the first one.
