The sixth edition of the European Darts Trophy was played from 12-14 October at the Lokhalle in Gottingen in Germany. Michael van Gerwen wins the tournament for the third year in a row after a convincing 8-3 victory in the final against James Wade.

It is a tournament in which Van Gerwen strings together the high averages. After victories over Vincent van der Voort and Stephen Bunting, he beats Daryl Gurney 6-2 in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals he is then 7-2 too strong for the winner of 2014 and 2015, Michael Smith.

Besides Michael van Gerwen, Jelle Klaasen also manages to reach the quarterfinals. He is eventually beaten 6-3 by Richard North. Simon Whitlock, Ian White and Peter Wright are all eliminated early, in the second round. Jeffrey de Zwaan, who has a great year in 2018 also falls against World Champion Rob Cross in the same round.

Van Gerwen takes his eighth EuroTour title of 2018, after he turns out to be too strong for James Wade in the final. The Dutchman throws an average of over one hundred in each game and wins the last EuroTour tournament of 2018.
