The fourth edition of the European Darts Matchplay was held from 29 June to 1 July at the Edel-optics Arena in Hamburg, the same location as in recent years only with a new name. It is the ninth EuroTour tournament of 2018 and it became the sixth tournament win for Michael van Gerwen on the EuroTour in 2018.

Van Gerwen beat Ryan Joyce, Robert Thornton, Ian White and Stephen Bunting on his way to the final. In the final, William O'Connor is his surprising opponent. The Irishman plays his best tournament ever and for the first time in his career gets to the final of a PDC ranking tournament. He defeats Martin Atkins, Rob Cross, Kim Huybrechts, Mensur Suljovic and Andy Boulton in often long matches. In the final, O'Connor has no chance against an unleashed Van Gerwen who hits an over 105 average in the final.

After five years, the curse of Ross Smith is broken in Hamburg. Smith had thrown a nine-dart finish during the Gibraltar Darts Trophy in 2013 and since then non was thrown on the EuroTour. Over 22,000 legs later it is Michael van Gerwen who breaks the curse in his match against Ryan Joyce. He throws 180, followed by 177 and a 144 finish.

Mighty Mike not only won his sixth EuroTour title of 2018 with the win in Hamburg, it is also his 26th overall. For Andy Boulton it is his first EuroTour semi-final ever, Buntings last semi-final on the EuroTour also dated back two years ago.
